Dr. Ivan Herstik

Common foot reconstructive surgery, such as bunion and hammertoe repair, is performed either in-office or within the hospital, utilizing state-of-the-art equipment and technique. Counseling and educating parents on their child’s in-toe walking problems, helping marathon runners with heel pain complete their 26-mile quest, and providing comfort relief to the elderly makes each day unique.

“It is the patient interaction I enjoy most,” says Dr. Herstik. “The smile given after successful treatment or a story told to me by a patient about a life experience makes every day enjoyable, different, and exciting.”

Pain relief is the primary focus.

“We just try to do the right thing for the patient, based upon their individual desires and expectations, and not on what insurance will pay,” explains Dr. Herstik.

Dr. Herstik was the Section Chief of Podiatry, Department of Orthopedics at St. Vincent’s Hospital Medical Center in Manhattan until the hospital closed in 2010. He continued to be involved in the training of the Podiatric Residents at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital, as well as training and assisting other podiatrists, which is where he and Dr. Jonathan Richards first met. 

Dr. Herstik enjoys living in suburban New York with his three children. Keeping active, healthy, and fit is an important part of his lifestyle, a goal he tries to instill in his patients everyday.

These days, Dr. Herstik has a limited presence at FOOTDRx but is available in the Brooklyn Office for Independent Medical Examinations (IME's).
